According to data from Nuffic (international education agency), British students have been showing less interest in Dutch universities in recent years, as the number of students coming for education has fallen by 24 percent.
in 2021, a total of 2,372 British students enrolled in a Dutch university or college for their education. With the decline, there were 760 student losses for each academic year.
Non-EU students, while paying a tuition fee of € 6,000, students from Dutch and EU citizen countries pay € 2,200. It is believed that the large difference in tuition fees between Dec is also a big reason for these preferences.
However, despite all these negative developments, the number of international students studying in the Netherlands is increasing. (12%) The Dec of English students corresponds to only 14% among all students. Three out of four international students who choose the Netherlands for their education are EU citizens, mostly from Germany, Italy and Romania. Chinese students, on the other hand, are the country that prefers Dec Netherlands for the most education among non-EU students.
In general, the number of international students in the Netherlands accounts for 20% of admissions to universities and colleges in an academic year.
In contrast to the growth shown by all other countries, there was a large decrease in the number of students that the UK sent to the Netherlands for undergraduate study in 2021-22. Under these circumstances, compared to 2020-21, the number of British students enrolled in Dutch higher education this year has decreased by almost 25%.
A 2021 study by Nuffic on the effect of Covid-19 on international students’ plans to study in the Netherlands found that over a third of 54 upcoming students from non-EEA nations planning to study in the UK are more likely to prefer the Netherlands as their study destination after Brexit.
On the other side of the sea, Dutch universities are having a much harder time managing the workload in education. As this has become very difficult due to the fact that it is unlikely to continue, they want to reduce the number of international students in the Netherlands. visatv.co.uk
