10 Downing Street is a historic building located in the Westminster district of the British capital, London. This building has been the official office and residence of the prime minister of the period since 1735.
10 Downing Street should be the most famous of the buildings named by number one in the world and the one where the most important decisions are made. Londoners use phrases such as ”I’m at number 10“ or ”I’m close to 10″, everyone can easily understand that they are talking about the Prime Minister’s Residence.
This building, where major decisions are made, has a very simple and aesthetic atmosphere, as well as the residences of other world leaders. Its purpose can be considered that it does not need to prove its strength to its citizens or other countries. For comparison, the White House or the Matignon Mansion in the city of Paris can be remembered. Number 10 has hosted many world leaders for many years, but the Queen has not come once.
In 1735, the first owner of the building was Sir Robert Walpole, the First Lord of the Treasury, who in the conditions of that era same meaning with prime minister. King George II gave the building to Lord. Since the first owner was the Lord, the title of the First Lord of the Treasury is written on the sign of the building instead of the Prime Minister.
Currently, Number 10 is the official working office and residence of Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Finally, housing may not be a palace, but this place is very significant role in politic of world.
