As it is known, Ankara Agreement was signed in 1963 between the European Economic Community (EEC and EU’s former name) and Turkey in 1963, and it includes the rights to found a work and run it for Turkish citizens. In the community whose old name is the the EEC and current name is EU, only the UK meets the requirements of this agreement.
And that is why, as of March 29, 2019, the possibility of Brexit being implemented, the conditions under which the Ankara Agreement will continue and whether or not it will operate will be a big question.
In Britain’s leaving documents from European Union (EU) a section has been prepared for immigrant reconciliation within the scope of the financial assistance to Turkey and citizens in Cyprus and UK. The fate of the Ankara Agreement was not included in the text.
According to 6th section named as “commitments relating to migrants in Turkey” in 585-page draft Brexit agreement document between England and EU, England will fulfill financial commitments under the agreed Syrian immigrant agreement between EU and Turkey until Brexit agreement enters into force.
According to the most crucial part of the agreement between Turkey and the EU signed on March 18, 2016 Brussels said that it committed 6 billion euros in total by paying in two installments addressing the needs of Syrians in Turkey.
Unfortunately, the Brexit agreement did not include any statements on the validity of the Ankara Agreement, which allowed Turkish citizens to establish businesses in the UK.
It is uncertain as to whether the Ankara Agreement will remain valid from the expected date of Brexit or not.
Specialist lawyers in this context recognized that England can do a separate deal to implement working visa applications determined in Ankara Agreement after England leaves European Union.
On the other hand, another point of view is that this opportunity will be invalid when the UK leaves the EU because it is recognized under the Ankara Agreement.
Whether or not the draft agreement is adopted, the UK seems to be out of EU membership on March 29, 2019.
However, until December 2021, the current situation will continue in a transition process.
It is also expected that relations will continue as if the UK is still a EU member.
However, it remains uncertain whether or not England continues to get a visa from the citizens of Turkey within the scope of the Ankara Agreement after March 29, 2019.
England, decided to leave the EU with the referendum in 23 June 2016.
