With the brexit of the UK from the European Union, many new arrangements will take place. Only one of them is related with the situation of old British citizens living in EU countries. Many British people living in these countries may face many obstacles for their free health services and may have to leave these countries.
The Guardian Newspaper reported that thousands of British citizens living in Spain and France would have to return if their healthcare services were not covered by their country.
The unexpected outcome of Brexit’s call to the commission in the British Parliament has signaled that it can trigger a wave of immigration back to Britain for both working and retired British citizens.
Advocates of British rights living in Europe warn that British citizens living in countries like Spain and France can not afford private health insurance.
Sue Wilson, one of the founders of the campaigns, said, “These people may have no choice but to return to UK.”
Currently, 108,000 retired British citizens live in Spain. These people can benefit from health services in European Union countries such as Spain, France and Germany for free or for a small fee. The healthcare costs are covered by the UK government.
On the other hand, the majority of those who vote for on Brexit are composed of retired British citizens who are not active in business.
