In the UK, the Constitutional Court ruled the parliament start the process of Brexit.
The Constitutional Court declared its decision to end the debate on whether the government or the parliament should launch the Brexit process in the country. According to the ruling, the parliament is entitled to operate Article 50, which will officially launch the Brexit process. The decision was taken by 11 judges with 3 votes versus 8 votes in court.
Britain’s Prime Minister Theresa May argues that she will take the initiative to initiate the 50th article of the Lisbon Treaty, while Gina Miller, a British business woman sued the governement , claiming that a parliamentary decision is needed.
In the UK, the Supreme Court ruled on 3 November in favor of the theses of Miller, and ruled that parliamentarians must be present before the process of brexit. The government, then, sent the decision to the Constitutional Court.
NEGOTIATION PROCESS TO CONTINUE AT LEAST 2 YEARS
The British government was expected to operate the 50th article of the Lisbon Treaty, which will officially launch the exit process from the European Union, by the end of March. The negotiation process is expected to last at least 2 years.
In the EU referendum last year in the United Kingdom, Britain, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, 52 per cent of the people voted for Brexit.
